How to draw simple fish

Today's hub will be on how to draw a simple fish sketch. A fish has many different parts to it, and sometimes drawing them can be sometimes complicating. I have created this drawing tutorial to be as easy to follow and emulate as possible. There are 8 steps in total so while this may not be too hard, please allow yourself at least 15-20 minutes to complete this drawing.

To start, make sure you have all of your supplies ready. That means a pencil, eraser, a blank sheet of paper and a hard surface. Once you have all of these things, you can move forward to step 1. Good luck!

Step 1

First, draw a line similar to the one I have drawn in the sample. Not a straight line but somewhat curvey. This will be the upper back portion of your fish. Also, be sure to provide some room at above this line, as the dorsal fins will go there later.

Step 2

Draw another line similar to the first one right beside it. This will represent the lower portion/belly of the fish.

Step 3

Now that we have a basic body shape for the fish, it's time to start drawing the main two fins. The fins will connect the two lines that were drawn in the previous 2 steps.

Step 4

Once you are done drawing your fins, draw a mouth on the fish like in the sample. Just two lips basically. From here on out, we will focus on the small details within the drawing.

Step 5

In step 5, I have drawn the fish's eye and the opercle (right next to the eye). The eye I have drawn is just a round beady circle with a black dot in the center of it.

Step 6

Now we will draw the remaining fins on the fish. Most fish have about 5 fins by default: the caudal fin (that's the big fin on the tail which we have already drawn) the pectoral fin (the fin on the side, sort of like the fish's arm), pelvic fin (the fin underneath the belly), the dorsal fin (the large fin at the top) and the anal fin (need I say more? ;))

Step 7

After drawing the remaining 4 fins, just fill them in with detail. I just drew thin, curved lines on the fins.

Step 8

Last step and probably the most easy of steps. I drew dots on the fish's skin to give it an appearance of texture.

And that is all! Congratulations! You now have your very own sketch of a fish. I hope you found this useful and if you liked this hub, please share it with friends and loved ones. :)
